Bitfinex analysts say bitcoin’s weekly Super Trend indicator has turned bullish for the first time since the current downtrend began, suggesting the recent recovery could develop into a broader and more stable upward trend.
The indicator, which is based on bitcoin’s price volatility, recorded a positive weekly signal after several months of weakness. Analysts at the cryptocurrency exchange believe the change could support further short-term gains, despite a volatile week in which market movements triggered hundreds of millions of dollars in liquidations.
Super Trend is a technical-analysis tool designed to identify the prevailing direction of a market. Bitfinex said the latest signal was the first indication of a bullish bitcoin market on the weekly timeframe since the downtrend took hold.
The move has coincided with a period in which bitcoin has been correlated to gold, following an announcement by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that the U.S. Treasury would double its long-end buybacks from September 9 through November 4.
“BTC has flipped its weekly Super Trend bullish for the first time in months. Super Trend flips sides when the trend changes, and this is the first bullish turn on the weekly since the downtrend set in. A close above the line confirms it,” the exchange said on social media.
Bitfinex describes Super Trend as “one of the cleanest trend-following indicators in technical analysis”. It is calculated using volatility data from Average True Range (ATR), a measure developed by John Welles Wilder Jr.
Wilder also created several other widely used market indicators, including the Relative Strength Index (RSI), Average Directional Index and Parabolic SAR.
The position of the Super Trend line relative to the price is central to the signal. When the indicator remains above the price line, it shows that sellers are in control and that the market is in a downtrend.
When the line stays below the price, as it did at the latest weekly close, the interpretation is that prices are moving higher and buyers are leading the market.
Bitfinex analysts said a bullish reversal in the weekly Super Trend can be used as a possible signal to enter long positions. They also suggested that the indicator’s value could serve as a trailing stop as the price rises.
“As bitcoin rises, the line follows it higher. If price closes below the line and Super Trend flips bearish, that can be a signal to exit the long,” Bitfinex concluded.
The technical signal came as U.S. bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $730.87m in net inflows on Thursday. Bitfinex said that was the third-largest single-day total for the funds in 2026, as bitcoin surged.
