Strategy has bought a further 950 bitcoin for approximately $75.7 million, taking its total holdings to 846,000 BTC, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The treasury company acquired the bitcoin between Sept. 14 and Sept. 20 at an average price of $79,670 per coin, an 8-K filing said.
The additional purchase brings Strategy’s bitcoin holdings to an estimated value of $71.9 billion. The company paid an average of $75,416 for each bitcoin across its portfolio, with total spending reaching approximately $63.8 billion, including fees and expenses, according to co-founder and executive chairman Michael Saylor.
Bitcoin was listed at $84,973.44 in the market data accompanying the report. At that price, Strategy’s holdings represent more than 4% of bitcoin’s fixed 21 million supply cap and indicate paper gains of about $8.1 billion.
Strategy also repurchased 1.77 million STRC preferred shares last week for approximately $174 million. The bitcoin purchase was funded from the company’s USD Cash reserve.
During the same period, Strategy used $57.4 million from its USD Reserve to pay dividends on its preferred stock and interest on its outstanding debt.
The company said that, as of Sept. 20, its USD Reserve stood at $5.04 billion, while its USD Cash balance was $1.05 billion.
Saylor signals latest purchase
On Sunday, Saylor posted another chart tracking Strategy’s bitcoin acquisitions on X, captioned: “A little more orange.”
Similar posts have often appeared before the company announces a bitcoin purchase the following day. However, Strategy’s approach has differed in recent weeks, when its bitcoin holdings remained unchanged.
Data from Bitcoin Treasuries shows that 196 public companies have adopted some form of bitcoin acquisition model.
The other companies in the top five are Tether-backed Twenty One, Metaplanet, MARA, and Bitcoin Standard Treasury Company, which is backed by Adam Back and Cantor Fitzgerald. They hold 43,514 BTC, 43,000 BTC, 35,577 BTC and 30,021 BTC respectively.
Strategy’s shares rose 16.4% last week, closing at $153.92 on Friday, according to The Block’s MSTR price page. The stock is now unchanged for the year after a significant recovery, although it remains 54.2% lower over the past 12 months.
Bitcoin increased by 5.3% over the same period.
