SHC orders Rs1 million surety for Sahir Hassan as custody period deemed sufficient; trial to proceed
The Sindh High Court has granted bail to Sahir Hassan, son of prominent Pakistani actor Sajid Hassan, in a narcotics case involving the alleged possession of cannabis. The court set the bail at a surety amount of Rs1 million.
A constitutional bench of the high court issued the ruling on Friday after carefully reviewing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence. Hassan had been in judicial custody since his arrest on 22 February 2025 from the Defence Housing Authority area in Karachi, spending over two months behind bars before the bail was approved.
According to case documents, the Karachi South police charged Hassan with possessing 557 grams of cannabis. An interim challan submitted to the Judicial Magistrate South last month included claims that the accused had admitted to transferring money from alleged drug sales into a bank account linked to his father’s business manager.
In light of this allegation, the court summoned the manager and instructed him to provide detailed bank statements and related financial documents to support his position. However, as of the latest court proceedings, the manager has yet to submit any such evidence to the bench.
Taking into account the extended period of Hassan’s custody and the lack of additional proof submitted thus far, the court approved his bail while affirming that the trial proceedings would continue.
Remand Granted in Separate Cryptocurrency and Call Centre Case
In a separate case, a Karachi court has granted the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cybercrime Wing five-day physical remand of a suspect named Armaghan, who is under investigation for allegedly running an illegal call centre and conducting cryptocurrency transactions.
The District and Sessions Judge South approved the remand after FIA officials requested additional time for technical analysis and further interrogation. The suspect appeared before the court via video link.
The judge also directed prison authorities to ensure that Armaghan is transferred into FIA custody for the full duration of the remand period, allowing investigators to pursue leads in the digital fraud case.
Both cases continue to attract public attention as authorities crack down on narcotics and cybercrime activities in Karachi.
