Ripple says asset managers and other commercial projects are preparing to use a new XRP Ledger feature that will allow up to eight transactions to be processed together, with every transaction either succeeding or failing as a group.
The Batch V1.1 upgrade is designed to link asset transfers with payments, potentially supporting delivery-versus-payment transactions. It could also allow exchanges, wallets and marketplaces to process service fees at the same time as customer payments.
Ripple said commercial projects are already being developed around the feature following an extensive security review and a redesign of the original version.
Batch V1.1 is expected to go live shortly after Sept. 29, provided support from validators remains above 80 percent. Its activation depends on that threshold being maintained across the XRP Ledger network.
The batch system is intended to ensure that related XRP Ledger transactions do not settle partially. Instead, the grouped transactions would either all be completed or all fail, reducing the risk of an asset transfer taking place without its associated payment, or a payment being made without the linked transfer.
The upgrade follows the discovery of a critical flaw in the original version. Ripple said the system was redesigned before undergoing an extensive review focused on its security.
The feature could be used in transactions where an asset changes hands only when payment is successfully completed. It may also help platforms combine operational charges with customer transactions within the same batch, allowing exchanges, wallets and marketplaces to handle service fees alongside payments.
Ripple’s comments indicate that asset managers are among the commercial users assessing the upgrade, while other projects are also preparing applications before its expected activation.
The release will therefore depend both on the validator support threshold and on the completion of the network’s move to the redesigned Batch V1.1 system.
