Ripple has partnered with Stripe-owned Privy to help developers build XRP Ledger wallets directly into payment applications, allowing users to send XRP, the RLUSD stablecoin and other assets without creating separate cryptocurrency wallets.
The integration also supports the use of artificial intelligence agents that can hold funds and make automatic payments for online data and services. AI-related payments have now passed 14 million, while a Ripple executive said they represent about 25% of activity on the XRP Ledger.
Privy’s technology allows wallet functionality to be incorporated into an application rather than requiring customers to manage a separate crypto wallet. That could make it possible for payment services to handle transactions involving XRP and RLUSD within their existing platforms.
The partnership is aimed at developers creating applications where digital assets can be transferred as part of online payments. Users would be able to move XRP, RLUSD and other supported assets through those services, with the wallet functions embedded in the app.
The arrangement also highlights the potential for AI agents to conduct transactions independently. Once funded, an agent could use its wallet to pay for online information or services automatically, rather than relying on a user to approve each payment manually.
However, embedded wallets on the XRP Ledger still need to be funded before they can become active. Every new XRP Ledger account must receive the network’s minimum reserve of 1 XRP, including accounts intended solely for stablecoin transactions.
That requirement means developers and users will need to provide the reserve XRP when creating new accounts, even where the wallet’s planned activity involves only RLUSD payments. The reserve remains necessary because of the way accounts are established on the XRP Ledger.
