In a distressing incident, a 26-year-old graphic designer fell sufferer to cyber fraudsters who deceived her of Rs 2.75 lakh beneath the pretense of doubling her funding returns by means of cryptocurrency.
Aditi Sahani, a resident of Shivaji Park, Dadar, acquired a message on her WhatsApp on December 24, providing a part-time job promising returns between Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 after every project. Intrigued, she was directed to obtain the Telegram app.
Based on her assertion to the Shivaji Park police, Sahani engaged with a profile named ‘Aurora,’ who elaborated on the job and requested her private particulars. To ascertain credibility, the fraudsters initially despatched her Rs 178 as the primary fee. Subsequently, Sahani was added to a gaggle named ‘Formal Worker Group,’ the place she was instructed to click on a hyperlink, take a screenshot, and ship it again.
The fraudulent scheme escalated when Sahani was inspired to speculate cash in cryptocurrency, with the reassurance of doubling her returns. She acquired one other hyperlink resulting in an internet site labeled “token change,” prompting her to switch Rs 55,000.
Two days later, she was assigned one other job, which she accomplished. The scammers then persuaded her to speculate extra within the token change, leading to an extra fee of Rs 1,20,000. The web site falsely indicated a complete “revenue” of as much as Rs 3,20,000. As her projected rating continued to rise, Sahani made one other transaction of Rs 1 lakh, pushing the alleged complete revenue to Rs 4,48,000.
