The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted extensive searches across 11 locations in Delhi and Haryana, leading to the seizure of ₹1.08 crore, $1,000 in cash, and 252 grams of gold. The operation was part of an ongoing investigation into a cybercrime case involving large-scale fraud.
Investigation into Cryptocurrency Fraud
The searches, carried out on Friday, followed a case registered under Section 120B read with Section 420 of the erstwhile Indian Penal Code and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act. According to officials, the accused allegedly engaged in fraudulent activities by impersonating government officials and using computer resources and crypto devices to commit financial crimes.
Authorities stated that the suspects lured victims in India and abroad by offering fake technical support consultations, coercing them into transferring money as cryptocurrency. The illicit funds were then funneled through multiple crypto wallets and eventually converted into cash, making it difficult to trace their origins.
Crackdown on Cyber Fraud Network
The CBI has intensified efforts to dismantle the cybercrime network, with investigators meticulously tracking the financial trails left behind. The agency has already filed a chargesheet against three individuals, signaling further legal action in the case.
Officials believe the operation is a significant breakthrough in curbing online financial fraud, which has been on the rise with the increasing use of cryptocurrency in illegal transactions. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to identify other individuals involved in the scheme.
