Blink Wallet has suspended its services after an attacker accessed and emptied a limited number of custodial accounts, the Lightning Network payments platform said on Saturday.
The company, which offers both custodial and non-custodial services, said it was investigating the security incident and that most funds remained safe.
“We’ve paused Blink services while we investigate a security incident,” Blink Wallet’s official X account said on Saturday morning. “An attacker accessed a limited number of custodial accounts and withdrew funds.”
Blink later said that a “few dozen custodial accounts were affected by the incident”. It did not disclose the amount taken, but said every affected customer would be reimbursed.
“Every affected account is identified and will be made whole,” the company said.
Blink added that users of its non-custodial service were not affected.
The incident is the latest in a series of bugs, exploits and data breaches to hit digital currency companies and applications built specifically for the Lightning Network.
Btcpay Server recently reported a critical bug which reportedly allowed a remote attacker to read LND macaroon files. Lightning Development Kit (LDK) also disclosed two bugs and advised users to upgrade.
Non-custodial swap service Boltz disclosed problems on 3 August 2026. Its team said: “Attackers now iterate faster than a team our size can find and patch.”
Boltz subsequently shut down, creating difficulties for providers including Aqua, Bull Bitcoin and Zeus. Aqua later launched Indra, its own Liquid–Lightning swap stack, following the problems affecting Boltz.
Blink’s most recent update was posted at 12:06 p.m. ET on Saturday. There has been no further update or post-mortem since then, and the route used in the attack has not been made public.
That means users do not yet know precisely how the breach happened. Any claims about a specific exploit remain unconfirmed until Blink publishes its investigation.
Several users asked questions directly on Blink’s X account, including one who wanted to know how customers could establish whether they had been affected.
Another user said they urgently needed access to their funds to pay for a funeral.
“Please, approximately how long will it take to be working normally? I need to make some urgent funeral payments,” the user wrote in response to Blink’s post. Blink’s X account replied to the user, but the available update did not provide a timeline for the restoration of normal service.
