Binance co-founders Changpeng Zhao and Yi He adopted the aliases “Homer” and “Marge” – the names of the married characters from The Simpsons – during company meetings, according to a report about the cryptocurrency exchange’s leadership.
Yi He, who is now co-chief executive of Binance alongside Richard Teng, continues to use the name “Marge” in meetings and online chats.
The aliases were used by the two Binance co-founders as they worked together at the company. Zhao is widely known as “CZ”, while Yi He has retained the “Marge” identity in professional communications.
The pair are not only business partners. They have also been romantically involved for several years, having first met at OKCoin in 2014. OKCoin is now known as OKX.
The revelation about the couple’s Simpsons-inspired identities quickly attracted attention from the cryptocurrency community. Meme-coin creators moved swiftly to launch tokens celebrating the relationship between the two prominent figures and their unusual workplace disguises.
The development reflects the way personal details involving senior cryptocurrency executives can rapidly become part of the sector’s meme-driven culture. In this case, the use of fictional names linked to one of television’s best-known families became the focus of new digital tokens.
Zhao and Yi He helped establish Binance and remain closely associated with the exchange’s leadership. Yi He currently holds the role of co-chief executive with Richard Teng, while Zhao continues to be identified publicly by his initials, CZ.
Although the names “Homer” and “Marge” were adopted for company meetings, Yi still uses “Marge” in meetings and chats. That continued use has helped keep the story connected to the company’s day-to-day communications rather than limiting it to a historical anecdote about Binance’s founders.
The Simpsonian aliases also underline the personal connection between the two executives, whose professional partnership began after meeting at OKCoin in 2014 and later developed alongside their involvement in Binance.
News of the aliases was followed by the appearance of meme tokens created in honour of what the cryptocurrency community portrayed as a crypto power couple. The coins emerged from the sector’s meme-coin ecosystem, which has often responded quickly to news involving high-profile figures.
