The China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair (CSITF), often dubbed the “weathervane” of China’s technology trade, commenced on Wednesday, unveiling a spectacular array of innovations from 28 Chinese and international companies and institutions. This year’s fair highlights advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), biomedicine, service robots, and new materials, underscoring China’s growing technological prowess and its commitment to global collaboration.
Observers note that the expo vividly showcases the resilience and progress of Chinese tech firms, despite ongoing international trade tensions and blockades. The fair not only highlights China’s technological advancements but also signals its openness to expanding global tech partnerships, which are crucial for bridging the technological divide in developing countries.
Spanning two days, the expo covers a vast 35,000 square meters and features five main exhibition zones: energy and low-carbon technology, digital technology, biomedicine technology, innovation ecosystem, and services. This year’s event has attracted nearly 1,000 exhibitors, including over 60 participants from emerging fields like commercial cryptography, the low-altitude economy, and embedded systems. These sectors have significantly expanded their display areas, reflecting their growing importance and innovation.
The Xinmin Evening News reported on Wednesday that more than 20 pioneering projects were showcased for the first time, covering areas such as carbon footprint analysis, generative AI, and the agricultural seed industry. The spotlight was particularly on generative AI and large language models, with their versatile applications drawing significant attention from attendees.
Shanghai-based AI unicorn YITU Technology announced that it is showcasing its state-of-the-art crypto technologies and an AI security system called Tianwen. YITU’s participation underscores the increasing integration of advanced AI in security solutions.
Similarly, SenseTime Technology, another leading Chinese AI company, presented its advancements in the medical sector. SenseTime unveiled upgrades to its “SenseChat-DaYi” medical large language model, aiming to enhance the efficiency and quality of healthcare services. “Our goal is to unleash the potential of large language models in the health industry, empowering the high-quality development of the Chinese industry chain,” stated SenseTime in a note to the Global Times.
The expo is set to feature over 20 globally leading technologies, showcasing the strength and innovation of China’s homegrown tech sector. These exhibits not only demonstrate technological prowess but also highlight China’s strategic focus on becoming a leader in the global tech landscape.
Wang Peng, an associate research fellow at the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, emphasized the significance of the expo for international cooperation. “The expo could facilitate international exchanges and cooperation, which will benefit China’s technological progress and the collective rise of global technology,” he told the Global Times on Wednesday.
