Global leaders meet in Singapore to strengthen digital security measures
The United Arab Emirates has stepped up its efforts in the fight against digital financial crime by participating in the International Cryptocurrency Security Action Week in Singapore.
The Ministry of Interior, represented by its International Affairs Office, joined the high-level workshop organised by the Secure Communities Forum in partnership with Mastercard. The event brought together senior figures from global law enforcement, technology firms, and the private sector to confront the mounting challenges posed by cryptocurrency-related crime.
Global platform against digital threats
The workshop was designed to provide law enforcement officers and security professionals with the latest tools and strategies to counter illicit activities in the fast-evolving world of digital assets. Delegates from dozens of international organisations and hundreds of experts attended, highlighting the scale of global concern over cyber-enabled crime.
Key organisations represented included the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Interpol, the US Internal Revenue Service, the Royal Malaysian Police, the Data Security Council of India, Nanyang Technological University, Rabdan Academy, alongside major technology and data analytics firms.
Building partnerships across sectors
Throughout the sessions, participants explored ways to strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors. Law enforcement agencies connected with cryptocurrency exchanges and analytics firms to share knowledge, identify threats, and improve cross-border responses to criminal activity.
The programme centred on three main themes. The first focused on investigating cryptocurrency crimes through advanced techniques to track fraud, combat money laundering, and monitor illegal transactions on the dark web. The second emphasised the importance of stronger partnerships between governments, financial institutions, and private companies. The third offered forward-looking insights, including expert-led lectures on digital assets, new regulatory frameworks, and emerging risks in the sector.
UAE’s active role
The UAE’s involvement reflects its commitment to shaping international cooperation in the fight against cybercrime. By participating in global forums, the country is reinforcing its role as a proactive player in safeguarding the digital economy against exploitation by criminals.
With the rapid expansion of cryptocurrencies worldwide, authorities warn that new risks will continue to emerge. Events such as the Singapore workshop highlight the urgency of collective action to develop robust frameworks and practical strategies to protect financial systems and citizens alike.
As the use of digital assets grows, the UAE and its international partners have signalled a unified determination to stay ahead of those seeking to exploit them.
