A third and final member of a trio of brothers involved in a brawl near Orchard Towers has been sentenced to two years and one month in prison, following his guilty plea for rioting and being part of an unlawful secret society. The brawl, which occurred in the early hours of August 14, 2022, spilled over into two major roads and was captured on video, quickly going viral.
Muhammad Fikri Junaidi, 24, was also fined $800 and admitted to unrelated charges of computer misuse. He is the last of the three Junaidi brothers to be sentenced for their roles in the violent altercation, which caused a public disturbance and drew significant attention on social media.
Fikri, who was described as a “fighter” in the gang, was the seventh person involved in the incident to be dealt with by the courts. His two older brothers, Muhammad Faiz Junaidi, 31, and Muhammad Fadzli Junaidi, 36, had already been sentenced earlier in 2024. Faiz, a senior member of the secret society, was jailed for 15 months and fined $10,000 for five vaping-related offences, including selling pod cartridges. Fadzli, the headman of the secret society at the time, received an 18-month prison sentence and a $15,000 fine after pleading guilty to several charges, including rioting and being a member of an unlawful society.
The violent confrontation began at around 5:12 am on the morning of August 14, 2022, outside Orchard Towers. Faiz was seen engaging in a verbal dispute with a man identified as Mr. Mizra Abdul Azman after leaving the club Soi Happi with other members of the gang. According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Chan Yi Cheng, Mizra began shouting and gesturing aggressively towards Faiz’s group, escalating the situation.
As Faiz approached Mizra, the latter kicked him in the leg, triggering an attack by the group. At least 10 members of the secret society, including Fikri, descended on Mizra and another man, Mr. Abdul Figo Abdul Haleem, who had joined the brawl. The altercation spread onto nearby Claymore Drive and Claymore Road, causing a significant public disturbance and disrupting traffic.
Both Mizra and Abdul Figo attempted to flee but were pursued by the gang members. The pair sustained facial injuries during the attack and were treated at separate hospitals. The brawl ended around 5:15 am, and a nearby resident alerted the police. Fikri was arrested the following day.
In addition to his role in the Orchard Towers brawl, Fikri also pleaded guilty to unrelated computer misuse charges. He admitted to misusing his Singpass login details and bank account in a cryptocurrency scam. Fikri had responded to an online advertisement in July 2022 offering “fast cash for crypto,” and handed over his personal details to a figure known only as “Peng” in exchange for monthly payments. Between November and December 2022, more than $14,000 was deposited into Fikri’s bank account before being withdrawn. Fikri kept $800 of the funds for personal expenses.
Despite knowing that sharing his banking details was illegal, Fikri went ahead with the transactions for monetary gain. His involvement in both the Orchard Towers brawl and the cryptocurrency scheme ultimately led to his sentencing.
Fikri’s sentencing marks the end of the legal proceedings against the three brothers, who were all part of the same secret society. Their violent actions and public disorder have highlighted ongoing concerns about gang activity in Singapore and its impact on public safety.
