In Kaduna, where economic pressures are mounting, a significant number of residents with access to smartphones have embraced online crypto trading as a practical solution to support their families. This trend is particularly noticeable among state employees across various ministries, who are finding it difficult to make ends meet on their current salaries.
Workers from ministries such as education, works, and the judiciary have reportedly turned to crypto mining and trading as an additional source of income. The practice is gaining popularity as more individuals discover its potential to provide financial relief in a challenging economic climate.
A staff member from the state judiciary, who requested anonymity, shared his experience with cryptocurrency trading. “I’ve been involved in crypto trading for several months to increase my income, especially since the state government has yet to implement the minimum wage. I was fortunate to earn N100,000 from crypto just this past Sunday,” he said, expressing his satisfaction.
This sentiment is echoed by a worker from the State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency (KASTLEA), who also earned approximately N80,000 from crypto trading on Sunday. He explained how cryptocurrency has become a lifeline for him: “I’m using crypto to supplement my modest monthly salary from the state. It’s a flexible option that doesn’t interfere with my job.”
In the private sector, the story is similar. Haruna, an employee at a private health insurance company, reported earning over N200,000 from recent crypto transactions. “This confirms that crypto trading is a viable income source. I plan to use part of my earnings to stock up on foodstuffs,” he stated, highlighting the practical benefits of his newfound income stream.
Abdul, a teacher at a state government public school, expressed his optimism about the future with cryptocurrency trading. “I’ve started using my smartphone for crypto trading as a side hustle. With the uncertainty surrounding the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, it’s reassuring to have this additional income,” he remarked, underscoring the growing reliance on digital assets in Kaduna.
As the delay in implementing the minimum wage continues, the trend of crypto trading among Kaduna residents is likely to grow, with more individuals exploring this alternative source of income to mitigate the effects of economic hardship.
