CGS International Futures Malaysia (CGS MYF) has made history by launching the country’s first publicly available CME Crypto Futures contracts, providing local traders with access to Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (Ether) futures trading.
The initiative positions CGS MYF, the futures broking arm of CGS International Securities Malaysia (CGS MY), as the first licensed derivatives broker in Malaysia to facilitate crypto futures trading through the global derivatives exchange, CME Group—one of the world’s largest and most diverse futures and options marketplaces.
Bringing a Market First to Malaysia
Alan Inn Wei Loon, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of CGS MYF, described the move as a milestone in the company’s commitment to broadening its product offerings and enhancing investment opportunities in Malaysia.
“We are proud to bring this market first as we continue to enhance our product offerings and provide Malaysian traders and investors with access to internationally diverse and globally recognised financial instruments,” said Inn.
He added that the introduction of CME Crypto Futures contracts is a strategic step towards offering investors exposure to digital assets within a trusted and regulated framework.
“Through our network, CGS MY has access to the capabilities, infrastructure, and expertise to support sophisticated traders and investors looking for exposure to the explosive potential of digital assets but without taking on the full risk or exposure of buying and holding the crypto,” he explained.
Inn also highlighted the advantages of trading crypto futures within a regulated environment, noting that the price discovery process and significantly lower trading fees make it an attractive alternative to traditional crypto investments.
Expanding Investment Opportunities Amid Growing Institutional Interest
The launch of CME Crypto Futures aligns with increasing institutional interest in digital assets. Despite bearish market trends, cryptocurrencies continue to play an integral role in diversified investment portfolios. The new offering provides a structured alternative to direct ownership of digital assets, allowing investors to manage risk effectively while capitalising on market movements.
Through CGS MYF, investors can trade Bitcoin, Micro Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Micro Ethereum futures contracts in a cash-settled environment. These contracts offer portfolio diversification opportunities while mitigating the volatility and security risks often associated with spot crypto trading.
A Transparent and Efficient Approach to Crypto Investing
Maxwell Ong Wai Boon, Head of Securities and Leveraged Products at CGS MYF, underscored the significance of structured financial instruments in the evolving cryptocurrency landscape.
“The cryptocurrency market is evolving rapidly, and institutional-grade products like CME Crypto Futures provide traders with a structured, transparent, and efficient way to gain exposure to digital assets,” said Ong.
“These contracts are ideal for experienced traders and investors seeking to hedge risks, capitalise on market movements and volatility, and enhance their portfolios with a regulated instrument,” he added.
Ong also emphasised that CGS MYF’s robust trading infrastructure and deep market expertise make it an attractive platform for traders looking to navigate the crypto derivatives market effectively.
Strengthening CGS MYF’s Position as a Leading Derivatives Brokerage
The launch of CME Crypto Futures solidifies CGS MYF’s standing as a leading derivatives brokerage in Malaysia. By providing clients with access to globally competitive trading opportunities, the company is reinforcing its role in shaping the country’s financial markets and driving forward Malaysia’s position in the evolving digital asset space.
