Boursa Kuwait has joined forces with over 100 stock exchanges worldwide for the fourth consecutive year, participating in the 2024 edition of World Investor Week (WIW). The global campaign, spearheaded by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), aims to promote financial literacy and investor protection across global markets.
This year’s World Investor Week, which runs from October 7 to 13, is focused on key themes such as Technology and Digital Finance, Crypto Assets, and Sustainable Finance. Boursa Kuwait, through a series of workshops, seminars, and discussions, aims to raise awareness about fraud prevention, investor resilience, and the fundamentals of investing.
“As a member of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) and an affiliate member of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), Boursa Kuwait is pleased to join stock exchanges from around the world in the eighth edition of World Investor Week, marking the fourth year in a row for the Kuwaiti stock exchange,” said Mohammad Saud Al-Osaimi, CEO of Boursa Kuwait. “This participation stems from our commitment to promoting financial literacy in the Kuwaiti capital market and expanding the knowledge base of its participants.”
This year, Boursa Kuwait launched “The Bell” initiative, in collaboration with local financial organizations such as the Union of Investment Companies, The Kuwait Financial Center (Markaz), the CFA Society, Kuwait University, and the Kuwait Credit Information Network (CINET). The initiative seeks to foster financial literacy through educational programs, workshops, and seminars. The name “The Bell” is symbolic of Boursa Kuwait’s role in signaling market changes and opportunities to investors, as well as evoking the traditional bell-ringing ceremony that starts trading sessions.
Al-Osaimi highlighted the importance of the initiative: “Today, we launch ‘The Bell’ initiative to promote financial literacy, which includes training programs, workshops, seminars, and panel discussions, organized in collaboration with experts in the capital markets industry and the financial sector.”
The initiative focuses on educating a broad audience, from university students to seasoned professionals, on key investment trends such as artificial intelligence, digital finance, and sustainable development. It will also provide insights into complex financial concepts like mergers and acquisitions, bonds, and sukuk as alternative financing options.
In addition to the series of events and workshops, Boursa Kuwait plans to revamp its Boursa Academy online financial education portal. The platform will be enriched with white papers, podcasts, and educational videos on the basics of investing, offering valuable resources for both novice and experienced investors.
Commenting on the partnership, Union of Investment Companies Chairman Abdullah Hamad Al-Terkait said, “This collaboration with Boursa Kuwait reflects the commitment of both organizations to educate Kuwaiti society about the importance of financial knowledge and responsible investing.”
Other key figures in Kuwait’s financial sector also lauded the initiative. Ali Khalil, CEO of Kuwait Financial Centre (Markaz), said, “By promoting financial knowledge and responsible investment practices, we aim to equip investors with the tools to make informed investment decisions, contributing to the country’s economic growth.”
Boursa Kuwait’s continued participation in World Investor Week reflects its dedication to fostering a financially literate society and reinforcing its position as a leading regional and international stock exchange. Through initiatives like “The Bell,” the exchange aims to create long-lasting, meaningful impacts that will enhance financial knowledge and empower the next generation of investors.
