Rapper discloses high-stakes wagers and failed bets in NBA and NHL playoffs, shares receipts on Instagram
Global rap icon Drake reveals losing over $8 million in just one month through crypto sports betting, sharing receipts of high-stakes wagers on NBA and NHL games.
Grammy-winning rapper Drake has shocked fans after disclosing he lost more than $8 million in gambling last month—revealing the downside of his high-stakes partnership with the crypto betting platform Stake.
The 38-year-old rapper, whose full name is Aubrey Drake Graham, took to his Instagram Stories on Wednesday night to post a screenshot showing his losses from the platform, where he’s been a brand ambassador and active player for the past three years.
“Gotta share the other side of gambling …” Drake wrote alongside the post, revealing he placed nearly $125 million in bets over the past month, resulting in a net loss of $8.2 million. Though he did not disclose the specifics of most bets, the timeline coincides with major sporting events including the NBA and NHL playoffs.
In a separate Instagram post, Drake detailed one of his most recent wagers—an $800,000 bet on Game 6 of the NBA Finals, held on Thursday night. With the Oklahoma City Thunder leading the series against the Indiana Pacers, he placed $600,000 on an outright OKC win and an additional $200,000 on the team winning by a 6–10 point margin.
The gamble backfired when the Pacers secured a commanding 108–91 victory, dashing both parts of Drake’s bet.
It wasn’t his only misstep on the ice either. Last month, the Toronto-born star placed $1.25 million on the Toronto Maple Leafs to win Game 7 of Round 2 in the NHL playoffs, with hopes of seeing his hometown team advance to the Eastern Conference Final. The Leafs ultimately fell short, handing Drake yet another costly loss.
While the rapper’s substantial betting activity has raised eyebrows, it’s unlikely to dent his fortune. Though Forbes last pegged his net worth at $49 million in 2020, more recent estimates suggest Drake’s wealth now exceeds $250 million, bolstered by music, business ventures, and endorsement deals.
Still, the revealing posts highlight the risky nature of celebrity sports betting, even for those with vast fortunes. Drake’s ongoing partnership with Stake has seen him regularly stream live betting sessions and share wins and losses alike with his massive fanbase.
But as he reminded his 146 million Instagram followers this week—sometimes the house wins.
